Actually, if he's using the original DOS-based PKZIP/PKUNZIP, there are lots of problems that may crop up along the way. The most frequent problems have to do with the DOS application's attempts to use other than conventional memory forthe compression and decompression operations. The executables behaviors are quite sensitive to the VDM environments; in general, the safest thing to do is to limit them to using conventional memory for their operations; in some cases, it is necessary to tell them not to exploit the 386-enhanced instruction set. The exact settings vary from platform to platform and depend largely on available memory and the XMS/EMS/DPMI providers available to the VDM.

Depending on version, there may be problems with LFNs, large files and operation with some versions of the NetWare shell/client. I last used version 2.04g before switching to WinZip, which offered a great deal more functionality, particularly with the command line extensions.
