Nick,
Of course this depends on numerous factors like:
- nature of the application
- Network configuration
- File server configuration
- etc..
In general VFP does not have much problems with many concurrent users. If switching to SQL server, the chances are that performance is going to drop, because now all data handling is going to be handled by one SQL-server.
I don't think that the number of concurrent users is one of the factor that should determine whether or not to switch to SQL server. The main reasons for doing this IMO are:
- Better security
- Better transaction handling
- Better replication posibilities
- Better WAN support
Neither performance (unless when network trafic is very critical, like in a WAN) or the number of users play a role whether to make the jump or not.
Walter,
>How many concurrent users can be accessing visual foxpro database on server before I will see performance drop in data access. I guess what I am trying to get at is how do I go about determining when I should use sql server data engine with foxpro?
