I've seen this kind of error, but not this specific instance, on four occasions:

(1) Working in the root directory of a drive, I hit the limit of the number of allowable files in the root directory. The root directory of a drive has an absolute ceiling, based on the partition type and size. If you hit that limit, you cannot add more files to the directorywithoutdeleting some first. Solution - never use the root of a drive.

(2) Ran out of available disk space on the drive. DOH!

(3) Name collision with a hidden/system file or folder of the same name

(4) Name collision with a file in a directory JOINed to the directory. This bad idea was removed from DOS/Win a while ago; I've hurt myself when doing volume spanning under NT.
