I found it. I went back and looked at the table again, and realized that I didn't have "cdesc". I had "desc". I "always" use "cdesc" since "desc" is a reserved word, but I guess this time I had a brain fart. Must have been confusing FoxPro and all it could think to tell me was "syntax error". :)

Anyway, all fixed now.
