Hmmm...

We don't have external speakers on our machines (some machine have on-board sound, but we don't plug speakers in).

I just checked...it seems that if you have a Windows sound device, the ?? chr(7) will not go through the internal speaker; it is probably going through the Windows sound device as you said, but since we don't have speakers hooked-up, no sound. The machines with no Windows sound device beep with a chr(7).

I guess I better look into disabling the sound devices...
