What do you need to do? There's not really much to complex numbers, just two parts, so you need two variables to hold the parts Real & Imag. Usually all you want to do is find the magnitude of these (there's not a lot else they're good for), which is just squaring each part and adding them, then taking the SQRT, if memory serves me.

They usually come from roots of polynomials...
