That's where backup plans come in handy. I'm not looking to argue the facts of the case here Mr. Helland. I'm just stating the facts. The facts are:

1) For whatever reason, a company with multiple sites might be looking for software such as what Ars offers. But they want to store the data at the main site, so the Operations person could run reports of peoples times throughout the company whenever he/she wants.

2) At this time your company does not offer a solution for this person.

3) The first time, and possibly the 2nd and 3rd time this happens, your Director of Sales will just chalk it up to another lost sale to your competition. However, after the 3rd time, he will come running to your Director of Product Developement, screaming for a way to enter data remotely.

4) It won't be up to you to determine if it's feasible or be the best solution. It will be driven by your customer desires.

I am currently employed because of the need for remote solutions. I work at a place that sells pagers. We are upgrading the main paging terminal to a Windows NT solution from a Unix box. We have sales agents of our products. When they sell a pager for us, they dial in to the Unix box to set up the new pager. The company that markets the NT solution is a small company that has not sold to a place with agents before.

There are 3rd party products for other paging terminals that are now offering a Web Interface. Luckily for me, my company wants the Web rather than dial-up interface, and is willing to have me produce it.
>Lovely, and when something happens to the Timecard server in New York, not a single person anywhere withing the comany can use the software. Then we go to writing it on paper.
