I think the part that your missing is that people who just produce Desktop apps is a dying breed. Much like for the last 5 yrs, whenever I worked at a larger company, there was an older guy in a small cubicle, left alone, who was there cause he understood the old Cobol apps.
There's a ton of ways that the Internet or Intranet can be used for just about any app. Suppose for your timecard app, someone at the company wants to be able to view hours while he's on the road. What better way to do that, then using a browser. That's just one way I thought of off the top of my head.
I'm not sure what kind of competition ARS has. But if there's any at all, the Web will become a way of life for you soon too.
