If my memory serves, I think it was determined that he should use AddObject() to add the object as a member of the form rather than CreateObject(). I was assuming the discussion was still in that context...I just looked back and saw that was another branch off the original thread.
You are right, THISFORM is only valid if the object is a part of a form.
