Hi, Craig!
These journalists are beginning to really get my goat!
Have you seen the bloodbath on CompuServe over the one article
that was recently in PC Week. The author, who is an independent
contractor/consultant to MS, actually had the nerve to get
involved in that forum. He's being beaten to death and he's
keeping his cool and not being abusive, but he is also not
getting the point of what is being said. He won't admit to being
wrong in any area. I've stayed out of that fray. There's enough
blows being traded without me being involved.
I think these "journalists" who cover these products need to stop
editorializing on where they think the product fits and cover the
feature set. The reader can determine where a feature set, that
seemingly covers database development over and over, fits.
If these journalists don't understand the product, don't cover it
like they do. Ask for help, or quit their jobs where their titles
don't match their functions anyway. That ZD Internet magazine article
that dissed VFP was written by one with the title "Advanced Technologies
Analyst." Is that the depth of article on a feature rich database
development tool we should expect from one with that title? Sheesh!
The sad thing is, this particular author has actually written what
I've considered to be a lot of good articles in PC Week. But I didn't
read them for editorializing. I read them and enjoyed them for their
content.
I think a lot of these authors are spreading their expertise way too
thin by attempting to be an author's author who can write on any
subject. Sorta like the manager in many companies who doesn't need
to know what his employees really do, because he is a manager's manager
and can manage anything there is.
