If we were using the word unique as a description of a field, (say for an index) then yes I agree with you, however here is the original post:

In this case, the words unique and distinct are synonyms since Michael was not using the word in its technical sense, but only to state the results he was looking for.

I took the answer from the results he wanted:

>I want the RepCnt field value to be 10. How do i say this in SQL?

IOW 14 records but only 10 different values.

The words "unique" and "distinct" are interchangable with "different" here since this is not SQL Syntax or database design, but a non-technical description of the problem.

I don't think anyone was trying to change relational theory here :)
