Alan wrote a book called "About Face" in which he pontificated upon user interfaces. He was "instrumental" in the design of the early versions of Visual Basic, and a lot of what you see in VB today is a result of his decisions and opinions.
About Face is a bit long-winded for my taste, but it's still pretty interesting, and it's definitely high on the list for required reading for developers.
He's written another book called "Inmates are Running the Asylum" and I've not been able to drag myself all the way through it. He's got interesting ideas but they go on and on and on and on and if he'd just get to the point and shut up (and not talk down to the reader), it would be much easier to read.
Sorry about the rant about his books *s*.
