Well, I guess it kind of depends on the context that you either heard them used or are using them yourself. They could actually mean/be used to do the same thing.

An Application Object is often used to provide application wide services (and functions) to an application. An Event Manager would be an object that provides services to handle the processing of events in your application - and, as such, could be part of or make up your Application Object.
