It sounds as though you do have memo bloat. You are going to have to pack the table (or at least the memo field).

If your table is very active then memo fields aren't very efficient. Each time memo data is changed, VFP takes what was previously in the field, copies it with the additional stuff and puts it at the end of the memo file. At 800 lines per record, you could be adding 64K to the memo file each time someone edits something.
