Today is 26 June. Is it too late to answer your question? Your description is too simple. Could you write it more detail? Do your friend install the modem by Win95 plug-and-play function or install by himself? Did he install the other accesstories inside the computer, such as network card, sound card, etc.?
You can tell hime to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to see the list of program which are running, and tell him to check the programs which is using the modem. Perhaps he couldn't install the modem because he loaded the MSExchange.

>A friend of mine had to reinstall Windows 95. When finished, he brought up his modem and was told that some other application was using it. He has reinstalled the modem and his service, but gets the same message. He tried changing CMOS settings on COM 2. When he did that he was told he had no modem. Any suggestions. He is almost ready to shoot his computer.
