Title:
Win 2000 - is it safe to jump in the water yet?
Just taken delivery of my first Win 2000 software and installed it on a customers box.
Like the look and feel. (Particularly like the 'hibernation' mode - especially as it now works!)
But is it safe to convert my own system to it yet?
a) what do we know about its general bugs
b) what about bugs in relation to VFP specifically? (and when we reinstall the VFP, I assume we still need to reinstall SP3 because those fixes are specific to VFP rather than Windows?)
c) I need to carry my machine around with me and have to plug in to various (mainly Novell) networks on my client sites. Will I still be able to do that?
I have two network cards installed (one for BNC 10Mbit - yes they do still exist! - and the other for RJ45 100Mbit networks): is that likely to be a problem?
d) sometimes other machines (which will not be Win2000 for some time) have to link to mine, will there be problems with that?
e) I still support and occasionally recompile FP2.6 DOS exes: any problem with that under 2000?
f) I also use two graphics cards for twin monitors. Haven't seen any reference to that under 2000, but I assume it supports multi-graphics even better than 98?
g) I'll install the system onto a virgin hard drive which will then become an NTFS disk. Will I have a problem copying all my relevant files from the original FAT32 disks?
h) are there any other issues I need to be wary of?
Thanks for any contributions
Harry
