Just to update on what has worked after following the suggestions, this appears to be done best with a first then a second cursor. The first produces the result table, and the second with Select *, Recno( ) as place works quite well for the final listing. The recno( )column is properly numbered in the second. The use for the result is in a screen (grid) that can be viewed quickly in response to a participant's question about the results (given various criteria) particularly when the final results are not yet printed out.
