>Actually, we have a guy in our user group who has an application using WC and VFP front ends to run over 100 auto parts stores in California and a few other western states. It seems to work well enough that he is making buckets of money and undercutting the Oracle guys by thousands of dollars. Personally, I'm looking that way on a couple of apps right now too. The security is much better, you can pull on records of a bunch and do incremental uploads, etc. Rick's work has paved the way for us to already do what VB is touting in the distant future.

John, I take it your friend is storing his data in FoxPro tables rather than an SQL DB, an approach which can save a great deal of money.

My (unproven) theory is that a COM or middle-ware VFP app which is the only entity storing data into the VFP tables would make for a much more rugged situation than the classic file server app where many computers are hitting the tables.

Any opiniion on this? What are some of the ramifications of this approach? (Such as handling batch operations.) What are some of your ideas?
