No, XCOPY will smoke on files opened by others. Go buy a backup solution - there was a recent review of an ActiveX-based backup product in FPA; this might fit your needs better. It was not free, but was very reasonably priced, and could be easily integrated into a VFP application. I use ARCServe, now sold by CA; its Archive options can handle copying open files, but it is licensed on a server/user basis, and is far from free, or cheap. It runs on the server itself, and can be purchased on a single server or multi-server basis. It has considerable flexibility in job scheduling. Seagate Backup (formerly BackupExec, and available in a number of Enterprise configurations from Veritas) is another option. Also not free or cheap.

XCOPY will bury your LAN, since it copies from the server to the app and then back.
