>Also, does anyone know if it makes a difference to the client if the host is NT or UNIX? If I want to do something with vfp for example, should I choose an NT site?

If by client you mean the browser, none. You can be running NT, UNIX, Linux, WindowsCE, or a Palm Pilot as your server and as long as you are serving up plain HTML the browser doesn't care. This HTML could be generated via ASP, COM objects, CGI or other technologies.

You get into browser problems when you try to use ActiveX in your browser or user client side scripting (as opposed to server side like ASP).

Doing VFP stuff via a normal hosting service is tough. Usually they will only have the VFP ODBC drivers which means you will only be able to use ASP (vbscript) to access your tables. To use ASP you will need NT hosting.

Other options... setting up your own NT box then you can run COM components (stuff like Rick's Web Connect). This can be set up at an ISP usually for a few hundred dollars per month. Or you can have the NT server at your site and connect to the internet via DSL or a T1. Put this will cost 100's to 1000's per month.

As a more budget option you may want to look at www.vfpweb.net (or is that www.vfpweb.com) which uses Active Foxpro Pages.
