Ryan,

The problem with this is that it violates the human-machine interface principal that the machine should pattern for the user, and not vice-versa. When you think about it, why would a query tool allow an AND bewteen two elements from the same column? Clearly, a query with an AND using the same columns could never function as expected so the program should deal with it.
