NO NO NO !!!!!
You pass data to COM Servers - via ADO or XML or a string, or whatever else works for you.... You don't have COM Servers getting direct access to a calling processes data. VFPCOM is nothing more than a mechanisim to allow to quickly package VFP data so that you can send it to a COM server. However, that mechanism is riddled with bugs that IMO, make it useless. The power of VFPCOM lies in the event binding.
COM Servers never had nor will they ever have direct access to data from a calling process. I have never tried to make that argument. And, VFPCOM does not have a magical power that allows it either...
Has this whole thing been de-mystified now???

Have you ever tried to write a COM server that accesses data in the calling process? Are you arguing that it can be done, or that VFPCOM doesn't do it?
