>I know. I have a 7 year old niece who got started early with Logo. By the time she's 11, she'll be ready to do some consulting...
That's cool!
>I'm actually pretty pleased to see that the math curriculum at the school she's attending is starting kids early on some very basic, very learnable concepts like sets and basic logic as well as routine drill on arithmetic skills for kids who show any aptitude at all.
See this is what is totally missing from the local curriculums (plural because all the schools around where I live are bad, in closer to Pittsburgh there are some good one but...) I went to school at one local school, and my wife another. If anything its gotten less technological/Math oriented, not less. The biggest problem is a policy of hiring preferences for local graduates--so they keep repeating the same mistakes.
Can you say corrupt? The borough manager position of the next town over was filled with a guy who had been going for his associate's degree in accounting for the past 8 years, and was a custodian at the HS. Both the school boards, and the local gov't are all in cahoots, and have no agenda related to education. Needless to say I am moving before I have children.
I think logic should be required to be available early on. Critical thinking applies to so many areas. In the end probably more important than any specific technial knowledge is the ability to find the answers to the parts you don't know.
