The quotes must have come from Word. I tried using those "quotes" in code and it just generated a "Syntax Error".

Does this mean it now worked? If it does, I have no idea why that would have made a difference, unless there was other code called somewhere, or you had a UDF that used the variable X without declaring it LOCAL or something.
