That's the kind of stuff I was looking for in this thread! Thanks very much. By the way, I have seen LOCATE versus GO TOP produce significant benefits in multi-million record systems. I haven't used the LOCATE *trick* since I've been doing everything with views. However, to continue with the what's the best way concept, in a local view system, we need to SET OPTIMIZE ON for Rushmore to evaluate SQL comparisons. In a remote view system, the server is optimizing SQL tests and returning a result set.

If we assume that Rushmore takes some time to determine whether something can be optimized before attempting the optimization, this must be overhead in a remote view system. I did speed trials that certainly uphold this belief.
