You could say the same about including a WIN32 API call, what if you wanted to do COM on a VMS or Unix platform. Are you saying we are dependent on MS implementing the same API call for these platforms? Or are we saying that COM is generic binary standard for instantiating objects and getting at their contents (or VPTR's)?
