Another thought, what about doing something with the ToolTipText property (like add a standard character such as ^ as the first character of the ToolTipText if a context menu is available) of the ListView, or of a Shape, making the Shape invisible and always behind the ListView control? Or using the TextBackground property of the ListView - make it transparent if no context menu exists, or opaque and assign a distinct color when there's a context menu) or some other visual cue other than a special shape?
