hmmmm. Have you set a break point in that postinit() then to make sure your ddate property has a value when it's stored to the view parameter collection? I know you said it has a value when you hit requery... but maybe your problem is in the storing of it as opposed to the actual requery.

Also, maybe check and see if vp_whatchamacallit is a local var at the time of requery (should show up in locals window in degubber)
