The objects in VFP are real at design time. However, VFP has two modes for its objects, design and run. In design mode events don't fire and assign/access methods are sort of like events, that is they don't fire in design mode.

I know this is different from VB is some ways and it is also different from most other languages in other ways, but it is how VFP works.
