>>I would like to give my end users the ability to run adhoc reports and to also convert my current reports so that they can be sent to HTML, word and PDF. I am a bit confused. I think I would have to buy the developer edition to integrate with VFP but do I have to get the multi-user version. I am the only developer but the end users would be doing their own queries within my application.

>I guess it depends on how "ad-hoc" you want. If you get the developer CRW, you can use the Crystal Reports engine directly. (or use the ActiveX control to run static reports very easily)

If you hold their hand through the whole process, the department managers might get a kick out of feeling like they created a report, but it takes 3-5 times longer than just doing it for them.

>Most likely, you'll want to create a VFP form with a column picker and WHERE clause expression builder. You can then export the resultant query to a Fox2x table (may not be necessary with Crystal Reports 8?) and programmatically define the report through the CRPE32.dll runtime engine. (Though i've never done this, i know it's possible since i was scared into using the activeX control by all the declarations and API calls needed to manipulate the Crystal Reports Print Engine. I doubt this would be a problem for an experienced developer)

Any other packages that you recommend? Foxfire?

>In any event, you'll need the professional version. (the standard edition lets you create reports, but you can only run them from the Crystal Reports interface) Once you install it, you can read the help on using the CRPE32.dll in your own applications.

What is the difference between Professional and Developer?
