I closed the account immediately, then filed the police report. All checks after number x were returned to the merchant that accepted, stamped with "Account Closed". I then got a nasty letter from the merchant. I replied with an afidavit (provided by the bank at no charge).

I didn't see this. I avoid all the news magazine shows. But, I can't see how she could be held liable. It was outright fraud that occurred.
