I would recommend Whil Hentzen's "The Fundamentals: Building Visual Studio Applications on a Visual FoxPro Foundation" as your first book, based on my experience with his VFP3 version. He will take you step by step through the basics of VFP.

Then follow it with the Booth/Sawyer book for very practical illustrations of "best practices" approaches to using VFP.

Or read them both at the same time :-)
