Which version of FoxPro are you using? In VFP6 you could read chapter 7: "Designing Reports and Labels" in the User's Guide. (Look for a similar chapter in the docs for older versions.)

Some people use @SAY to generate special reports under difficult circumstances, but in general it is a holdover to be backward compatible to some stone-age technology. The report generator is the way to go.
