Normalmente, eu uso a instrução EMPTY(), pois esta indica mesmo se o campo está a vazio. Cuidado, que a instrução ISNULL() indica se o campo é nulo (o que é diferente de estar vazio).

I usually use EMPTY() function, because it returns if the field is empty. Be carefull, ISNULL() funtion returns true if it's a null value (different from an empty value).
