A developer on this conference recently mentioned that one of his apps always tries to open the tables exclusively when it is first started. If it can, it PACKs the tables. If not, it just starts normally.
That seems like a good scheme to me. From the users point of view, all they have to do is shut down all the terminals and then restart one on some regular basis.
