>>>Well, actually my first thought was to use the WSH ( George and ED would be proud of me :-) ) to get the information. The problem is the same as I believe it would be trying to use Sysinfo or similar. I.e. Browser security will not allow the necessary access. This was my experience while experimenting with WSH. Is this correct or am I missing something?

>>OK, Bill, I'm proud of you.< g > Since part of the functionality the WSH provides is for remote administration, you might be able to do this. This is a guess, and I don't have my WSH book handy at the moment. If you can't it may be a permissions issue.

LOL!

>I played around with instantiating WSH in a web page using JavaScript but it basically gave me the Dennis Nedry salute, "Ah, ah, aah ... you didn't say the magic word ..." and R. Strahl confirmed that browser security would inhibit the ability to use WSH on the local wrokstation from web page script as it would if trying to access basically anything on the user's machine. Silly security ... as if I would try to do a no-no on the person's machine. :-)

Of course you wouldn't.

>At this point I'm pretty well scratching my head over how I might accomplish this. I'll read the section on remote automation in the WSH Programmer's Reference and let you know if it seems to offer any promise.

I'd appreaciate it. This area is really beyond my knowledge of the WSH. I really don't know, under the circumstances, if remote automation will work. If Rick says that browser security is going to be an issue, then that's the end of it. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
George
