Thank you for your help. I think I've got the prerequisites
covered in terms of SQL fluency and overall application design...
I guess now is the time to 'go for it'.
My initial work will be upsizing VFP apps that are using local tables on Novell servers. A typical app may consist of 500mb plus aggregate database sizes, and only a dozen or so active users. If we dedicate a mid range machine (e.g. 200 mhz pentium, maybe 64 megabytes RAM, SCSI hard drives, running NT and SQL server) what if any performance differences do you think we'll notice relative to running the same app over Novell 4.1 with 30 or so active users performing verious tasks on a file server with roughly the same specs. All of my apps our sound from the design standpoint (not downloading huge tables all at once through a view, rushmore optomization, etc...) Where will the database server be faster and where might it be slower? Are there different considerations relative to performance in the client server environment. For example, does Rushmore optomization or something similar apply? What are the new factors in tuning the app?
Thanks again.
