>Wow! I didn't expect some people to get offended by my original post on this subject.
I was not at all offended.
>I personally don't feel VFP world needs to feel so inferior as you two seem to be.
Do I feel inferior? Am I inferior? :) No and no (hopefully). :)
>As we all know VFP is a good product and can stand on its own merit and its strong history. I'm not an expert on C builder nor VFP for that matter, but I do know that there are other languages that are just as fast or even faster then our beloved vfp, especially if third party software is involved. That does not mean it is any better nor was I implying that I would rather use C Builder over VFP when designing a database application.
First, I want to say that it's next to impossible to compare programs written in different languages and draw conclusions
about those languages. From my experience, VFP can beat almost anything for local data processing. The exceptions
exist, but they are rare.
This doesn't mean C Builder is not good. I am myself a C++ programmer and I like it and I use it and I find it
very powerful, etc. It's just the fact that in almost anycase, C++ cannot beat VFP for local data processing. Since
ODBC was used in the programs that you compared, probably a well written VFP program will be faster than a
well written C++ program (because both will go thru the same ODBC layer).
