It doesn't appear you are doing anything wrong. What is the size of each record? IOW, how much data is being pumped into SQL Server? Also, what is the connectivity between the two machines? Fast (100 Mbit) ethernet? 10 Mbit?

One other thing. If it's possible, I suggest you switch the memory from your 98 machine to your NT machine. If not then go out and upgrade the memory. 64 MB of RAM isn't that much when dealing with NT and SQL Server. You will be hitting the page file alot.
