>>>Having been around in the personal computing area since the relatively early days, I'll say this. One of the reasons I got interested in this was that it empowered people to make their lives easier. It took control away from computers the size of a convenience store and put it in the hands of the users. It is after all "their" data. Similarly, it's their computer. They can set it up as they wish, what's best for them. I think it's outrageous to think that I might know better than they as to what they want to see.

>>I might tend to disagree a little bit here. If your talking about an in-house application or one distributed to only one type of business/industry, then yes, I do agree 100% that MY CHOICE may not be the best one to make. However, if we're talking a generic type off-the-shelf product with a far ranging audience, then MY CHOICE is as good as anybody elses. You can't please all of the people all of the time...

>Understand completely. That's why I tend to stay out of these kind of threads. Siimply put, there's no right or wrong choice. So it comes down to a matter of opinion. At best, we can agree to disagree. At worst...? Therein lies the problem, normally very sensible people trying to defend something that's a matter of personal preference. There is no quantitative analysis that says that your "taste" is better than mine or vice versa. In the end we end up wasting bandwidth over something that is not solvable.

>I'm not directing this at you Fred. It's just a "general rant" on this type of thread and why I tend to stay out of them.:-)

Its not my intention to present an argument over this to you either, George. I could not care much either way. If you want to change the color, feel free; if not, it's no skin off my teeth, either. But it does bother me a little bit that M$ decrees "That's the way it is!" and we're supposed to like it. Please, Sir, may I have another? ;)
