Well, we didn't know most of it ahead of time. We did a tremendous amount of testing.

>If gomo(date(),-(year(date())-1752)*12) doesn't make sense and should return an empty date, why date()-(year(date())-1752)*365 makes sense and returns a 1752 date.

The difference is that, in the one case, you're subtracting months while the other is subtracting days. Days are defined throughout the time space, though you could make some arguments about how they should work when you go through the change of dates.
