>I'll need to go out and have a look at this book - looks like it's required reading.

It's not required until you read it. After that... you'll never understand how was the world before! :) I'm exagerating,
obviously.

>I always recommend "Code Complete" to anyone asking about general programming books.

Although very good, "Code Complete" is difficult to apply in real life, real projects.

"Writing Solid Code" it's pure long programming experience in difficult projects and full of advice/tips on how to
avoid bugs. It's really difficult to explain to non-C++ programmer how true it is and how well it points out the most
usual C/C++ mistakes (I know a lot of programmers that do those mistakes even after many years of C++). Probably
what I like most in this book is the perfect style and that (so rare) writing skil that makes everything look so
simple and natural and like you always knew it, although you did those mistakes all the time. :)

Interesting enough, almost all issues apply to almost any other programming language. And if something cannot be
applied directly, it surely has something to think about and it gives some ideas on how to improve soemthing in your
work with other languages.

"Debugging the Development Process" is on the same subject as "Code Complete", but, again, (IMHO) from a more
practical approach. It's true that Steve Maguire's perspective is different and... enjoy the reading. :)
