It won't get you the information that you need, since at best it would report on traffic relying on the socket connection. I'm afraid you're going to need to spend money on some commercial software; there's a reason that there aren't freeware/shareware products for this.

You may be able to collect some of the statistics you want through your server; for example, under NetWare 3.x, Novell's MONITOR.NLM was a server status tool that collects statistics regrding traffic between the server and a given station, and that might serve as an estimate of the network traffic level for you.
