Thanks, Edward. That's what I needed to know. This is the first report I've done with subtotals. It wasn't very intuitive--before asking the question here I attempted it on my own and by reading the manual. I got as far as creating the field in the group footer band, but I thought I could put SUM(field_name) in the expression. When that failed I noticed the calculation button, but then I left the expression blank and didn't know what to put where!
