Thanks for the reply. I agree that 700 sounds huge. Some more background:

This application is used by the Federal Government Treasury Board (Ministry of Finance in the UK ?). There are 60+ reports and they are all parametizable. The users may, however, decide to use the canned 'full' reports which are created every period and made available in text format for viewing and, mostly, searching through.

Using the parametized approach, they can create any 'reasonable size' report they want. Most often, though, they search, they find, they want a 2-page extract of the needle they found in the haystack.

In Government terms 700 isn't so large, sadly.
