John,

Thanks for the info - I guess we'll just work with it

Ken

>>Hi,
>>
>>The tech at a site I'm installing my app at claims that SBS4.5 "won't let him" install the SQL Server software from the CD onto a different machine than the rest of the SBS components. They have one machine on which most of the SBS stuff goes - NT, IIS, Exchange, etc., but we want to put SQL Server (from that SBS disk) onto another machione that has it's own version of NT.
>>
>>Anyone have any experience/comments on this. I don't have SBS here - so I can't experiment.

>He is correct. I started using SBS when it was a public beta. It's a good thought, but they dumbed it down too much. I hate dead end paths. Anyway, I've worked on a few since version 2 came out and it is much better. I don't know if it's still true or not, but in version 1 they had hard coded the administrator account into to OS. If you renamed the administrator account, then created a new "dummy account named administrator" you got to install SBS all over again. I raised cane with the presenter at Tech Ed a couple of years ago and he pretty much admitted it was a stupid thing to do. Renaming administrator and creating a dummy account named administrator that is disabled and has no rights is a trick that' been around for a long time, but noooooohhh, not on SBS.*g*
