I've got to throw in my viewpoint here. Using a framework has made me a better programmer. Studying the components of a good framework and seeing how they fit together has taught me solid OOP techniques and elevated my coding abilities.

Although coding outside the framework is possible, using the framework to get things done quickly far outweighs just about any argument I can think of. In a team development environment, everybody is on the same page if they are working from a common set of class libraries. It gets you where you want to go faster without having to reinvent the wheel.
