I'd be interested to hear exactly what the shortcomings of MSDE are. I would also like to know exactly why the "5 concurrent users or less" figure is thrown around as an MSDE limitation. I know that MS states that MSDE is "tuned" for this user count, but I am suspicious that some of the basis for this relatively low user count is MS's concern that the MSDE might replace SQL Server in some smaller applications.

Has anyone seen the MSDE choke on 6, 7, 8+ user access? Given that it uses the SQL Server engine, I find it hard to understand why it would. Perhaps MS has shackled the code somehow, but again, I would like to hear from someone with some experience.
