Unhappily, one still sees "twit" messages as part of search results, "see the entire thread", etc. I'm guessing that part of the problem might be that if those messages are hidden, the "thread" would be broken.
One idea would be to use a "placeholder" message, something like:
"The contents of this message have been filtered out by user request. To view this message, click
here"
By default, clicking on "
here" would bring up the message contents in a new browser window, similar to the existing HTTP links in a message.
