>We had a dayling savings change last night. It is interesting to compare computer technology to any other peripherals you might have in your house.

>When that happens last night, my Windows '98 indicated that it was changed. Windows NT didn't send any notification but it did change it as well.

>Now, if you look at any other peripherals in your house. Why is it that the digital clock on the stove, the coffee machine, the video, and the alarm clock can't handle that by themselves. It's the same old story whenever their is a power off. The computers will boot up as is. However, those peripherals will loose the clock settings.

>As for the video, adjusting the settings requires us to power it on, use the remote, play with the menu and adjust it. It's more easy with the other peripherals. We are in modern technology time, right? Why is it like that? :)

Both my TVs and VCRs changed automatically - they pick it up by satellite, as I understand. You need to do something fairly sophisticated, to account for :

a) Many places change DT/ST a week differently than others
b) Still others do not use DT at all.

So, I guess it's not so simple for kitchen gadgets and alarm clocks, in general. But it will come in time as technology progresses, they will either link to a central computer to get time updates, or have batteries/memory to set/restore after initial setting...
